About 4.4 million Canadians (14.3%) reported having a disability in 2006. The percentage of Canadians with disabilities increased with age, ranging from 3.7% for children 14 years and under to 56.3% for those 75 years and over. In 2006, a greater proportion of females (15.2%) reported a disability than males (13.4%). This does not hold for all age groups. Person with disability means a person suffering from not less than forty percent of any disability as certified by a medical authority (any hospital or institution, specified for the purposes of this Act by notification by the appropriate Government).
