The national monthly CPI (2008=100) increased from 198.72 per cent in May, 2017 to 200.85 per cent in June,
2017 resulting in a 1.07 per cent increase in inflation rate this month. Similarly, the monthly rates of inflation
increased in all the regions. Western Area (0.93 per cent), Northern Region (1.01 per cent), Southern region
(1.21 per cent) and the Eastern Region(1.44 per cent) comprising two centers, Kenema(1.07 per cent) and
Kono (1.84 per cent) during the same period.
Also, the national annual inflation rate for June, 2017 increased slightly from 18.91 per cent in May, 2017 to
19.14 per cent in June, 2017. Considering the regions, the year-on-year rates of inflation increased in the
Eastern region from 23.15 per cent in May, 2017 to 23.73 per cent in June, 2017, in Northern region from
19.71 per cent to 19.76 per cent and in Southern region from 16.58 per cent to 17.43 per cent while the yearon-year
rate of inflation decreased in the Western region from 18.09 per cent in May, 2017 to 18.07 per cent in
June, 2017. Figures 1a &1b below illustrate the movement in the year-on-year rates of inflation and monthly
rates of inflation respectively for the National CPI and other CPI centers while table 1 below shows the National
CPI from the months of June, 2016 to June, 2017 and the 12 month change in the CPI for the main index
groups.
