Although causes of global warming are still argued, driven by natural forces or human interference, global warming is an evident fact now. And the second obvious thing is the immense growth of CO2 emissions, which increased x1000 times during 1753-2008 period (from 8 mln. metric tones of carbon to 8.7 billion metric tones).

Nowadays China and United States are responsible for almost 40% of global CO2 emissions. But the great difference between them consists in per capita CO2 emissions. While in US this indicator has been stable at 5 metric tones per person since the beginning of 80th, per capita CO2 emissions in China are relatively low - at 1.4 metric tones. And this is a general distinction between developed and developing world. It means that during many decades ahead, growing wealth in developed world will cause the increase of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Chart at the left compares trends in the global annual temperature anomalies and CO2 emissions from fossile fuels combustion in the world. Global annual temperature anomalies (degrees C) computed from land and ocean data, 1880-2010. Anomalies are relative to the 1951-1980 base period means. CO2 emissions from fossile fuels combustion include emissions from cement production and gas flaring.

COP22 Low-Emissions Solutions Conference

The COP22 'Low-Emissions Solutions Conference: Global Brainstorming on Practical Pathways to Low Emissions' will follow up on commitments made in the Paris Agreement on climate change, in which countries are responsible for submitting a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the period to 2030, as well as a Low-Emission Development Strategy (LEDS) to 2050. Convening under the theme 'Global Brainstorming on Practical Pathways to Low Emissions,' the Conference will provide an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange information, identify bottlenecks, discuss best practices and prioritize future research. The conference will:...
