      Data cited at: https://nigeria.opendataforafrica.org/NGNBSNCPIR2017 The consumer price index, (CPI) which measures inflation increased by 11.14 percent (year-on-year) in July 2018. This is 0.09 percent points less than the rate recorded in June 2018 (11.23) percent and represents an eighteenth consecutive disinflation in headline inflation year on year. Increases were recorded in all COICOP divisions that yielded the Headline index. On month-on-month basis, the Headline index increased by 1.13 percent in July 2018, down by 0.11 percent points from the rate recorded in June 2018 (1.24 percent). This represents the first-time month on month headline inflation has declined since February 2018. The percentage change in the average composite CPI for the twelve months period ending July 2018 over the average of the CPI for the previous twelve months period was 13.95 percent, showing 0.42 percent point from 14.37 percent recorded in June 2018.

Offence against property has the highest number of cases reported with 65,397 of such cases reported. Offence against persons recorded 45,554 cases reported while offence against lawful authority and local acts recorded the least with 12,144 and 2,695 cases recorded respectively. Lagos State has the highest percentage share of total cases reported with 36.08% and 45,385 cases recorded. FCT Abuja and Delta State followed closely with 10.48% and 13,181 and 6.25% and 7,867 cases recorded respectively. Katsina State has the lowest percentage share of total cases reported with 0.10% and 120 cases recorded. Abia and Zamfara States followed closely with 0.29% and 364 and 0.38% and 483 cases recorded respectively.

      Nigeria: Gross Domestic Product (Expenditure and Income)In the first and second quarters of 2018, real GDP rew by 2.04% and 1.46% respectively, building on the growth recorded in 2017 which stood at 0.81%. When compared with the corresponding quarters of 2017, real GDP growth rate increased by 3.09% points and 0.68% points in Q1 and Q2 2018 respectively.  - Real Household Consumption Expenditure in the first quarter of 2018, declined by 0.25% but grew 0.78% year on year in Q2 2018. Government Consumption Expenditures which had generally recorded negative year on year growth rates in 2017, grew by 13.83% in the first quarter, and 33.71% in second quarter of 2018.  - Similarly, Net Exports grew in real terms in the first quarter of 2018 at 7.23% but declined 8.30% in Q2 2018 year on year. The growth recorded in the first quarter of 2018 was an improvement when compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year (9.46%). However, the reverse was the case in Q2, as the growth rate in the second quarter of 2018 slowed by 8.30% compared to Q2 2017 (18.26%). - National Disposable Income rose by 0.26% in the first quarter of 2018 in real terms, but slowed by –.98% in the second quarter of 2018 year on year.  - Compensation of Employees maintained its historical trend in the first and second quarters of 2018, growing at 14.71% and 15.33% respectively. - However, operating surplus continued to record negative growth rate, declining by 2.47% and 3.44% in Q1 and Q2 2018 respectively.

The half year 2018 states and FCT IGR figure hits N579.49bn compared to N453.83bn recorded in half year 2017. This indicates a growth of 27.7% year on year. Twenty-eight (28) States recorded growth in IGR while eight (8) states which includes (Abia, Anambra, Benue, Taraba, Kebbi, Kwara, Ebonyi and Enugu) recorded a decline at the end of 2018 Half Year. The net FAAC allocation in half year 2018 is put at N1.23 trillion while the total revenue available to the states is put at N1.74 trillion. However, the value of foreign debt stands at $4.22bn while domestic debt hits N3.38 trillion at the end of 2018 half year respectively.

The number of persons in the labour force (i.e. people who are able and willing to work increased from 75.94 million in Q3 2015 to 80.66 million in Q3 2016 to 85.1 million in Q3,2017 to 90.5million in Q3, 2018. The total number of people in employment (i.e with jobs) increased from 68.4 million in Q3 2015, to 68.72 million in Q3 2016, to 69.09 million in Q3 2017 and 69.54 million in Q3 2018. The total number of people in full-time employment (at least 40 hours a week) increased from 51.1 million in Q3 2017 to 51.3 million in Q3, 2018. The total number of people in part-time employment (or underemployment) decreased from 13.20 million in Q3 2015 to 11.19 million in Q3 2016 but increased to 18.02 million in Q3 2017 and to 18.21 million in Q3 2018. The total number of people classified as unemployed, which means they did nothing at all or worked too few hours (under 20 hours a week) to be classified as employed increased from 17.6 million in Q4 2017 to 20.9 million in Q3 2018. Of the 20.9 million persons classified as unemployed as at Q3 2018 11.1 million did some form of work but for too few hours a week (under 20 hours) to be officially classified as employed while 9.7 million did absolutely nothing. Of the 9.7 million unemployed that did absolutely nothing as at Q3 2018, 90.1% of them or 8.77 million were reported to be unemployed and doing nothing because they were first time job seekers and have never worked before. On the other hand, 9.9million 0r 0.9% of the 9.7 million that were unemployed and doing nothing at all reported they were unemployed and did nothing at all because they were previously employed but lost their jobs at some point in the past which is why they were unemployed. Of the 9.7 million that were unemployed and did nothing at all, 35.0% or 3.4 million have been unemployed and did nothing at all for less than a year, 17.2% or 1.6 million for a year, 15.7% or 1.5 million had been unemployed and did nothing for 2 years, and the remaining 32.1% or 3.1 million unemployed persons had been unemployed doing nothing for 3 and above years. The unemployment rate accordingly, increased from 18.8% in Q3 2017 to 23.1% in Q3, 2018
