Under the law on setting up, organization and functioning of the Central Bank of Congo, it is vested with the following responsibilities: implementation of monetary policy main objective of which is to ensure the stability of the general price level, internal and external stability of the national currency; holding and managing the official reserves; enacting the standards and regulations for trading in foreign currencies; participating in negotiations on any international agreement involving payment arrangements; developing regulations and supervising credit institutions, micro-finance institutions and other financial intermediaries; promoting the smooth operation of clearing and payment systems; promoting the development of money and capital markets.
