This table provides information on trade indices of value, volume, and unit value which are calculated at the level of individual countries, geographical regions, and economic groupings. See notes below for explanations of each indicator.
Source: UNCTAD secretariat calculations, based on ECLAC, CEPALSTAT External Trade Deflator; IMF, International Financial Statistics; U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, External Trade Prices Indices; Japan Customs and Bank of Japan, Unit Value Indices; UNCTAD, UNCTADstat Commodity Price Statistics; and UNCTAD, UNCTADstat Merchandise Trade Matrix
Notes: The value index is the current value of exports (f.o.b.) or imports (c.i.f.) converted to U.S. dollars and expressed as a percentage of the average of the base period (2000). The volume index is the percentage ratio of the export or import value index to the corresponding unit value index.
Due to lack of data publicly available, no estimation is attempted for non-reported indices of individual countries before year 2000. As consequence, indices at the level of geographical regions and economic groupings are not calculated in those time periods.
