Vladimir Eskin is the CEO and Founder of Knoema, a data company focusing on search, access, analytics and crowd-sourcing based in Washington, DC. Over the years, Dr. Eskin has been working actively with the IMF, European Commission, OECD, Islamic Development Bank, the African Development Bank, and others.

Dr. Eskin works closely with businesses and government organizations around the world to address their needs in data collection, data management, and data dissemination. His recent projects range from collection of high-frequency food prices in Africa via crowdsourcing; to the use of machine learning and natural language processing to extract data from text and connect them to relevant charts and figures; and working with Earth observation and crop suitability models to optimize specific recommendations to farmers in developing countries.

Vladimir Bugay

Vladimir Bugay has been the key technical architect at Knoema since its foundation. He's responsible for client delivery and manages technical teams in Russia and India.

Vladimir Bugay, as co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Knoema Corporation, developed the company’s technology platform from the ground up and now provides continuing technical oversight for Knoema’s data systems and client engagements. Prior to founding Knoema, Bugay spent about 10 years in a similar role with PROGNOZ, specializing in system architecture and software design as well as serving as the company’s CIO in Perm, Russia during.

Bugay is a graduate of Perm State University, Russia, and holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in computer science and applied mathematics. His background extends across dozens of technology frameworks and programming languages, ensuring his platforms are agile and adaptive to modern data system trends.

Dr. Kasputys formed Economic Ventures in 2009 to invest in start-up and early stage information companies. Economic Ventures has participated in founding and/or funding seven such companies: PRC Macro Advisors, focusing on the consumer sector of the Chinese economy and its interaction with macroeconomic dynamics, China Monitor, Inc. covering Chinese politics, economy and each of its major industries, Secured Growth Quantitative Research, providing the financial markets with unique methodologies to enhance investment performance, PCN Technology, offering network solutions, Knoema Corporation, providing web-based search, retrieval and analysis of global data, Knoema Federal, providing data and software services to the U.S. federal governemtn and 6th Grain Corporation, providing agricultural information to farmers in Africa and Asia.

In 2001, Kasputys founded Global Insight, Inc. to join together the world's premier economic information and forecasting firms, consisting of Data Resources (DRI) and WEFA (formerly Wharton Economic Forecasting Associates). He was Chairman, President and CEO until the sale of Global Insight to IHS, Inc. in 2008, and continued as Chairman until 2011. In 1996, Dr. Kasputys founded Decision Economics, Inc. with noted economist Dr. Allen Sinai, where he continues as Chairman.

Kasputys was Chairman, President, and CEO of Primark Corporation from 1987 to 2000, an NYSE-listed company that was a leading global provider of financial and economic information. He has also served as Chairman of Thomson Financial, Executive Vice President of McGraw-Hill, Inc. and as Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce. From 1977 to 1984, Kasputys held positions at Data Resources, culminating in his election as President and Chief Executive Officer. He was Deputy Director of the White House task force dealing with the Arab oil embargo in 1973, and later co-chaired the year-long Congressionally mandated study that provided the blueprint for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Kasputys also served in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of Commander. While serving, he was responsible for introducing time shared and remote computing in the Pentagon and later was the executive assistant to the Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Defense.

Kasputys is a graduate of Brooklyn College and holds both master's and doctor's degrees from Harvard University. He serves as a director on a number of business and non-profit boards. From 2008 to 2011, he was Co-Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development, a leading business group that develops and promotes policies to improve economic growth, where he currently continues as a Trustee and Co-Chair of its U.S. Fiscal Health Committee.
